Why am I beginning this blog?

I just read an aritcle on Desiring God.org about why pastors should blog. Well, I'm not a pastor and don't plan to become one but Abraham Piper's reasons were compelling. I use to journal very consistently while in college and newly married. For whatever reason the habit doesn't come as easily for me these days. I figured that since I sit down at the computer daily anyway then maybe I should begin a personal blog to process some of the things God is teaching me. I think this could be really useful to develop writing skills, hammer out some theme you see in your prayer time or just to share with others what you're learning BUT.... there are many negatives too. I'm not totally excited about journaling on the web for everyone to read. I will not blog everything that I would normally write in the privacy of my own journal. Also, though I know that my blog will not likely be accidentally erased or anything, I like the idea of looking at my bookshelf and seeing my old ragged journal sitting there safe and sound waiting for me to pick it up and reread all that was going on in my heart from 5 years earlier.

There are many reasons I would rather journal on paper than blog on the computer but the most practical reason that I will probably use this blog is that I cannot remember the last time I sat down with my journal.... ok, maybe 8 months ago. All that to say, I'm going to give it a try. I don't even think I'm going to tell anyone about it yet. We'll see.
